Americanization

I took this picture in Durrës, Albania, which is a city right of the coast of the Adriatic Sea, in August 2008. Coca Cola is very popular there and marketed often in restaurants and bars. These businesses sell Coca Cola in the glass bottles that we seldom see in the United States. We all have seen the commercial for this item with the polar bear drinking Coca Cola in the glass bottle. That commercial popularized Coca Cola and encouraged businesses in countries, such as Albania, to sell it in glass bottles. It is the small things such as entertainment and way of marketing that are causing bigger problems in the world today. Selling drinks in glass bottles is a major step back in environmental sustainability because Albania does not have the resources to recycle. It is a developing country that is adding environmentally unsustainable acts to the world.
